Yeah, I didn't think of the time limit as I tend to give out bounty in
chunks and the players only increase skills by 1 or maybe 2 levels each
time - so it tend to work out as an increase or 2 every 12+ sessions for my
group. But yeah, a time limit is good, also there could be a "teacher"
requirement to learn the skill, with the character being required to "hone"
what he knows before learning the next step.

Cognition based is good - I always like the idea of using skills with
different Traits than the base ones - but never get around to doing it
properly.

I'm not so sure about the double points for the skill as it makes it awful
expensive IMO, probably too expensive for any of my players to even consider
it. Getting to level 5 then takes 30 points, whereas a level 5 edge only
takes 15 points so this seems a little steep.

I would class this skill as being similar to the Medicine:Chinese one in
Hexarcana. Essentially it's been brought to the west by the Chinese and
anyone can learn it (no AB's required) as long as you can find someone to
teach you. The uniqueness of the skill would require the pupil to return to
his/her mentor to learn/increase a level. At this point the mentor could
sit them down and ask them what they have learned about themselves through
the skill. The player could waffle for a bit, telling the mentor situations
in which they have used the skill etc and the mentor would either judge them
ready to learn more or send them packing to practice more. Any lies would
immediately get the player sent packing and warned not to waste the mentors
time. This should prevent the character from advancing too fast, but the
player should feel that he has earned the advancement. It's an unusual
skill and so should be a little more difficult and unusual to learn.

I would try and have some fun with it. I would maybe have the character a
little bemused and frustrated at the logic and teachings of his Chinese
mentor.

Anyway, just a few thoughts.
