 Of course, the difficulty here is the "portability" factor
1) Not many cities have electric power in 1877
2) Those that do probably don't have a place one could plug in to get the massive amounts of juice an electric chair would need.
3) A generator capable of creating the voltage needed to fry a man would be massive, or if small enough to port around, very difficult to create (I'd place it at least Full House or four of a Kind dept. & that's just for the generator!) I mean we don't really have generators that small today.
 
I think an even more interesting form of execution would be the ghost rock chamber: A sealed compartment which exposes the condemned to massive amounts of ghost rock vapors until they combust, leaving behind a heart-sized chunk of ghost rock, which of course is given to the victim's family as a form of compensation. A chunk like that must be worth a couple hundred dollars >=]

I had an idea for an adventure hook where an MS offers to execute criminals in his portable Electric Chair.  He can demonstrate on a few small animals at first.
