Well.  Sort of.  Nitro is incredibly unstable.  It's the early formula for 
dynamite that was so bad.  In fact, it was the number of lost lives and 
limbs to his early formula that caused  Alfred Nobel
  to start the Nobel prize - to ease some of his guilt.

Properly maintained dynamite (ie - no beads of nitro soaking through the 
paper aka "sweat") is IIRC pretty stable.
