[DL] Re: A Winchester in .45 Colt?

Are you sure that you could get a Winchester chambered
for the .45 (Long) Colt? I cannot recall ever seeing
one listed except in modern 'reproduction' weapons. I
always thought it was odd that they did not do so,
though of course that would mean people would have to
get a Colt chambered for .44-40, a Winchester round.
Later on, with Browning's stronger action Winchester
did make lever-action rifles in an interesting
selection of much more powerful cartridges, some of
which were .45 calibre but not .45 Colt.

As a rule of thumb anything chambered in a pistol is a
pistol cartridge - .44-40, .45 Colt...
The rule has broken down now as people will try and
chamber anything in a pistol - you can get revolvers
for .45-70 and I believe they made one for the .50
BMG.

On the whole though anything larger than .45 is
probably a rifle cartridge. Off hand I can only think
of the British .455, .476 Webley and some .50
revolvers. Was there an early rimfire .58 single shot
pistol? I must check Barnes when I get home.

Mind you Deadlands is not our history so anything
could happen.
