i think it would work fine, if imported as is.  If anything, the monk is
underpowered, though his high AC helps.  i wouldn't allow them to take
the Firearms Proficiency, Automatic Weapons Proficiency, or Fannin'
feats.  The Knowledge(arcana) skill should probably be changed to
something else as well.  What sort of knowledge would depend on the
monk's background.  A traditional Shao-lin buddhist type monk should
receive the Healing skill.

If you're talking about your group that's only run twice, I'd say just
have them remake their characters -- at 5th or 6th level of course. 
Though the main book doesn't say so, my guess is that the default
begining character level for d20 Deadlands is 3rd level.  As for NPCs,
i've just been making them whatever level seems appropriate.  Stone, for
example, is a 20th level Gunslinger in my neck of the woods.
