Posse begone!

>My posse adopted -too quickly- the concept of mutliating the bodies of

The first thing I thought of when I saw this was, "Hit them with something that becomes stronger as more 'damage' is done to them".

This is little more than a bare concept, but how about: an abomination that gains power(s), strength or whatever, from the 'damage' that the posse does. I say, 'damage', because the abomination doesn't actually die from its wounds. Each wound gained from an attacker acts (in a purely abominational way) like a Maim Ritual in that it gains the creature a boon from the Reckoners. (As necessary, the abomination pretends to be hurt by the attack.) As the 'wounds' heal (over time or by magic), the abomination loses power.

The only way to truly hurt the creature is for it to see its reflection. Anything more than a quick glance causes it real damage. It will covertly attempt to break any mirrors in its vicinity when it suspects combat is imminent.

Point being, no ammount of firepower/preemptive mutilation will take care of this character. It'll keep coming back, and more powerful, until they figure out what its weakness actually is.
