Re: [DL] Damage

20 sticks of dynamite and 10 bottles of nitro? That's nothing...
I once had a posse that was sent on a mission (2 characters were Pinkies,
and the other two came along for the money) to intercept a train going from
Roswell to Richmond. Once they had intercepted and captured this train they
were supposed to divert it to a small town along the Mississippi where they
would rendezvous with a Union gunboat. The gunboat would then take the top
secret cargo up river. Simple mission right? Nice simple plan... Well, it
seems that this top secret cargo coming out of Roswell was a pair of bombs,
each containing 1,000 lbs of compressed ghost rock vapor and an ornithopter
big enough to carry them... The CSA had planned on dropping them on
Washington in an attempt to end the war.
The train was sent out with only a small unit to protect it in an attempt to
make the train appear less conspicuous, while a heavily guarded decoy wagon
train was sent on a different route. But the players cleverly saw through
the deception (i.e. tortured a prisoner to tell them the truth) and
intercepted the train. In the brief fight to capture the train one of the
ghost rock bombs was hit and developed a small leak (the posse's mad
scientist blew his roll to notice the leak when he inspected the bombs).
Apparently one of the gunfighters hired to go along with the Pinkies
couldn't read too well and did not observe the NO SMOKING signs on the box
car containing the bombs... Hey, I have to give the player credit for
role-playing his Clueless, Illiterate, and Hankerin' (tobacco) hindrances as
well as his 2d4 Smarts. The rest of the posse should have known better than
to leave him on guard duty while they slept...
Do you have any idea how much damage 2,000 lbs of exploding ghost rock vapor
will do? I didn't even bother rolling for damage, or even trying to figure
out how many dice that would be. Let's just say that there's a rather large
burning crater in Arkansas near where Little Rock used to be, and you can
still see the smoke from the other side of the Mississippi...
