There was this one adventure where there were strange killings going on at this new hotel in town. As one of us was the sheriff, we refused to let anyone leave the town until the kill was found. The investigation went on for 3 weeks (or 3 sessions in game time). No one could figure out what the hell was gonig on but all we could come up with was that it HAD to be some kind of vampire. So when the thinkers failed and no more ideas came up we let the fighters do what we dreded.
Steve (who can not think his way out of a paper bag) and another party member pushed there first idea of going door to door in this place while someone waited downstairs with a rifle to keep everyone from getting upity (they were already upset as they were being killed off by what we called a "mountain lion" and now were being threatend with a gun). Every person we came accross we splashed with holy water and pressed with holy waffers (mmmmmmm jesus cookies). When that failed we kept everyone in the dinner room and went thru EVERY room of the damn place. Finally we asked what was in the crawl space upstair and the little black lady that was leading us around brought us up there. As she was climging that latter our preacher said
"Aww Hell... we are testing everyone"
and pressed a holy waffer to the back of her head. She spins around showing her 3 inch fangs and picks up our preacher and throws him over the balcony (3 actoins to get up the stairs to us and one more to stand up). The fight was a icky one with the preacher being thrown down the stairs 3 flipping time before climbing them one last time with a broken broom handle to stake the bitch. We had no clue that it was her as she seemed so weak and not much was given in the way of her discription... for all intents and purposes we thought she was just one of the faceless masses that formed the game and did not have enough in her to be a NPC much less a Vamp. We lost 4 of the 6 party members that night and we all just wished we had burned the place to the ground.
