RE: [DL] chinese mummies

Be warned:

I've heard many a grim tale about characters with multiple personalities
becoming a problem in campaigns especially if one or more of the
personalities have arcane backgrounds and unique combinations of skills
separate from those of the host. In the beginning it might sound
entertaining to have a character like this but in the end you're probably
gonna live to regret it. Playing up your hindrances means Fate Chips,
meaning the goofier the player acts the more chips he gets. Sounds harmless
enough right? Now add in the fact that one of the personalities is a shaman,
another a huckster, a martial artist, a mad scientist, a blood mage,
whatever you have a recipe for disaster. By letting him have these
supernatural resouces at his disposal, all's he has to do is shift into
another personality, gaining a few chips in the process for playing up his
"hindrance" and let fly with the new-found AB powers. The other players will
resent the player having all that power at his/her fingertips and the lion's
share of the Marshal's attention.

BTW, multiple personality disorder is very difficult to control, most of the
time the personalities manifest during times of stress. They're a defensive
mechanism developed by the character's psyche as a means of coping with
uncomfortable situations, pain, and terror. People with multiple personality
disorders are far from healthy, they're usually pretty miserable and have
other emotional disorders to boot. Some of these poor souls actually fear
their other personalities or hate them, that's why suicide rates for people
with MPD are so high.

So my suggestion is to limit the number of personalities to a reasonable
number and design them yourself, with the player's suggestions of course. Do
a little research and try to lock down why the character is suffering from
this malady. Don't let him turn a hindrance into an edge like so many
players have done in the past, your other players will thank you for it and
the integrity of your campaign will remain intact.

Happi trailz,

Thanks I really like that idea. My master plan is: I have a player who made
a charector with (loco -5) 12 distinctive personalities. I liked the idea
and was thinking about how to work this into the champain.
My idea is than rather than have 12 personalities he has 12 souls, this was
done my a majical ritual that pulled the souls out of a hunk of ghost rock.
Since he was alive it just made him nuttier than squirrel dookey. However,
if a powerful undead creature could pull souls into the body it would make
them more powerful because the mantitou could keep all the souls in line and
the mummy could use them to power black magic or stuff
