I used to be one of those players, when I was in
college we all wanted to be the munchkin player, and
were.  And it crossed into all the different games we
were playing (D&D, Shadowrun, Cyberpunk) and it was
all different groups.  It was weird, now that I look
back on it.  After I moved back home, and got married,
and found my current group, they retrained me as a
player.  So it is possible and can be done.  It takes
time to break bad gaming habits, though.
