RE: [DL] RE: deadlands-digest.20031207

Everyone seems to be saying their piece and going for cover. I don't
think their is any need as no-one is making inflamatory remarks and
generally (with a few exceptions) Deadlands fans chat about things in a
civil manner. It's only an opinion after all.

I have no idea about the RPG market or what is required of a
company/product to thrive in it. I simply play the game. I must admit
that Horace Black's post echoed many of my sentiments, however I've
never bothered to voice them as I know, as Clint says, I'll move on.
The point is that when I move on - I know it won't be to Savage Worlds.
Don't get me wrong, I have no beef with SW. I went out and bought
myself a copy not long after it was released and I know I'll pick up
Reloaded when it comes out, but what I can say is that for me and my
group SW is not for us at this moment in time. Maybe in the future
that will change.

Since I started gaming - I've always tended to major on one product and
dabbled in others. While Deadlands was going that had my money -
pretty much no matter the product I'd buy it as it came out, it was a
hobby I threw my money at it to get the new stuff. I know I'll
continue to throw money at the hobby but I know myself and know that it
will start heading off to other product whether it be Feng Shui, SLA or
Pendragon. As one interest stops others develop. Funnily, a part of
me is saddened by this as I've had a little communication over the
years with Shane and he's always seemed to me to be a good guy that has
a commitment both to his product and the people that buy it.

Now, I do plan to continue GMing Deadlands, my group's been playing off
and on since 1998 and we've only managed to get as far as the end of
1876 - so there is plenty of milage left. My group have had a hoot
with Deadlands and the plan is to have a hoot with it in the future,
however the system used will be classic as it just captures the feel so
well and ultimately the group is comfortable and happy with it.

In the end, Deadlands is Shane's world, the rest of us just play in it.
So you've got to respect his decisions, even if you don't like them.

PS Nick, Shane had a problem getting my name right at one point - so
surely you should give up hope :-)
