Taking the Old Timer hex into accout, I can see a cabal of ancient hucksters sticking together
through it all, watching each others' backs of course, since they still can die.  They could be
thrown on either side of the big battle of good and evil, Marshall's whim.  They may even
occasionally take on an apprentice, if he proves worthy to them.  They'd definitely be very secret,
since anyone with that much power immediately gets a big red crosshairs birthmark on their
forehead...
