RE: [HoE] Tough enough?
First of all, look at the rules on stun in the combat section. (I'm quoting
the numbers from the original DL book which may have changed in HoE so
please look these up to verify) A light wound requires a vigor check with a
target number of 5 when he takes a light wound or be helpless with pain
until the check is successfull. Timmy Greenhorn is going to get creamed.....
Second, it is actually far more common for a character to be taken out of
the combat because of the loss of wind. For example: each of these
characters take 3 shots resulting in 4 wounds. This also results in 14 wind
loss on average and unless Timmy has d12's in his spirit stat he's going to
be unconscious. Dutch, however is in trouble but able to finish the fight if
he makes his stun check.
As far as size goes, you'll have to just work on common sense. A typical gun
does 3d6 damage (10-11 points on average) so a size over 10 is going to make
it very tough to hurt it with conventional firearms. There are other ways to
change a simple monster to something tougher. First, I generally assume that
any 5 wounds will take something out. This is usually true because of the
loss of wind if nothing else. It just isn't worth the GM's time to keep
track of wound locations for most things. By tracking wound locations you
can make the bad guy a little tougher especially if wind isn't going to be a
major factor (such as Harrowed). Armor is another thing that can be used to
"toughen" something up.
Hope this helps.....
