I'll look up the author, but a book I highly recommend on the Templars is
titled: The Murdered Magicians. The author presented many points of view while
giving a "good telling" of their overall history. There are several other
books, but the names escape me....
Derek, I thought I would save you the trouble of looking for the author, as the
book is behind me. I'll include one or two others I have looked at and
enjoyed:
Peter Partner, _The Murdered Magicians_
Partner, _The Knights Templar and their Myth_
John J. Robinson, _Dungeon, Fire, and Sword_ (A long historical study)
Robinson, _Born in Blood_ (Which details the connections between the Knights
Templar and the Freemasons. Serious history, even if you disagree with the
conclusions)
One other thing to mention about the supression of the Knights Templar: the
Pope at the time (Clement V) was French and never made it to Rome, residing
instead in Lyon and Avingon. The King was Philip IV. Jaques de Molay is
reported to have called both to appear before God to judge the case of the
Templars within a year as he was being burned.
Within a year, both the King and the Pope were dead.
