Correct.

What I do know is if the weapon's damage gets reduced to nothing, the
strength doesn't help at all.

What I'm not certain about is if the strength is reduced or not.  I
remember the subject coming up before, but I didn't save the official
response (if any).

My guess is that the strength also gets reduced, and if either the strength
or weapon gets reduced to nothing, the weapon doesn't do any damage.
