I think JTressler has the best argument.  I might add that the Reckoners might
keep a lid on certain lines of research to keep war as bloody and horrific as
possible, i.e. keeping trench warfare going as long as possible, delaying
atomics to keep the pacifc theater in WWII a nasty island hopping battle, etc.

(Templar Simon, yes, Myridian has told me about the "sandwich" vastly amusing.
we need a bar like "the corner" for HoE characters to congregate.)
