  What I worked out with the Templar in my game was that the bonus comes
more from living with one sword and becoming so in-tune with it that they
get the +1; the 'blessing' from Simon is more of a ritual formality than
anything.  It puts the 'seal of approval' on the Templar's choice of
weapon, any benefit from it is purely mental for the Templar in question.
  If they lose their sword somehow and can't get it back, I would rule that
they lose the +1 for a few months, until they got attuned to a new blade
(with a different balance, etc.)
