Re: [HoE] Re: The Timeline. (What did we do for 100 years?)

"our" level. I can justify it from a game design point (everyone who plays
already knows what am M16 looks like, therefore it is now big streach to
visulize an NA assult rifle. Most of us can associate with malls and
HMMWV's better than we could an air cushion vehicle) From a story teller
point I could say that it would have to do with the Reckoners. They had
lots of input into the DL culture and they could have limited the
progression of technology and stuff like that to fit their own needs. This
is just my opinion of course. Take it at face value, after all, I still get
a kick out of Seasme Street.<<<<<<

Just a few thoughts on the subject here. If they had set the game in say,
2004, and the game was still a hot product 4 years from now, they'd look
pretty stupid for saying we'd have hover cars by then, when in all
practicality, we won't. HOE is a nice setting, lots of fun, and designing a
future setting is in itself difficult. Who knows what the future will
bring? I'm sure they wanted to keep it sensible, and avoid many of the
"Flash Gordon" B-Movie aspects of many Sci-Fi settings.

Lastly, consinder traditional science vs. Mad science. Those of the
Scientific persuasion have those two choices, Mad & Normal. If they chose
mad, then they have access to any & all technology that existed before Stone
did his Texas 2 step back in time. Traditional Science would be similar to
science as we know it today. Only difference would be the 2000 of HoE
traditional science would be much further behind the 2000 we know & love.
Mad Science would of taken away many bright minds from Traditional Science,
thus slowing its advancement. This alone could account for MUCH of the
discrepencies everyone banters about.
