Re: [HoE] Re: The Timeline. (What did we do for 100 years?)
Okay! Wow!
I am responding to all those who answered my original message. First, thanks
for all the responses. Woo!
Second, I guess I wrote that message poorly and it seemed like I wanted MORE
high tech in the game. I like the Tech level just fine! Really!
Not what I meant. Poor job of writing that question Sorry!
What I wanted to know was if there was any solid (IN game or Big Secret)
reason for jumping 100 years forward when 20 would have been fine and fit the
setting perfect. And been easier to explain and use current fashions and tech
and such?
That's why I originally addressed it to Hopler. Was curious what reason or
rationalization THE people :) would say although I do appreciate the different
answers. Great stuff.
And Yes, I know I can make it up. I like to. :) That's not the point. I
want to know why it's so far forward when nothing made it have to be. Or if
something did, its doesn't seem to be shared with us. Seem to be more reasons
to make it a recent date. By recent I mean within 20-40 years. Is 2094 just
some flung out arbitrary number? Just nosy as to Shane and all's reasoning.
The game could be set in 2020-2050 and still allow the war, sykers, the
tech and all. It would make more sense IMO that some things advanced faster,
like the cyberware and tunnel, and everything else stayed on an even keel. As
far as the tunnel and other HOE specific super-tech: Hellstromme built the
tunnel. . If Hellstromme built it no one out there would probably say "Hey
how'd he do that in 1980 or 70" or whatever. :) The man was ahead of his time
constantly. He could've built the tunnel in the 50's and I would have said
"Neat!"
As far as Sykers-n-stuff. The first was in W.W.I along with the first Air
combat. I think both could have been advanced by now. :) Plenty of time to
perfect them for a 80's or 90's deployment on Faraway. Same with Cyborgs. The
tech could've been there easily.
I can see the idea of the technologies advancing faster than not advancing
at all.
My gripe is that as a Marshall I have no answer as far as the world
presented in the books. None. If Pinnacle had filled in some history we
wouldn't be sitting around having to rationalize a zillion different reasons we
think human progress ..just... stopped. I can believe and play a walking dead
man but history pausing for no known reason... hmm just too much. (Everyone
took a LOOONG vacation?) hehe

Well the problem there is thinking that anyone looks at a game and says "Hey!
there aren't any hover cars! Or Sykers.. Or... harrowed. Boy were those guys
wrong! Just like those Twilight 2000 jokers! Haw haw! No war! What
losers!" That's a plain silly reason to set a game in the far flung
future. :)

Could be set in 2025. No need for over the top goofy laser guns but plenty of
room to make it your own future. (Although I happen to like the Flash Gordon
Power for Junkers. And goofy over the top lasers and stuff too.... Hmm)

"<BLAM BLAM BLAM> Hey Nazi! That's American for "I am over here!""
PS.... And now thats thats done.... :) Some have asked about the Steel Sky
movement rules. I was curious as to Pinnacles stance on posting the small
relevant parts to a website or even on this listserv for those that need them?
I really enjoyed those rules and would gladly type them up as they made the
chases in the steel sky that much more fun as the posse clambered around in it.
(And invariably fell out of it.) :)
