My suggestion depends on whether you are using this to kill players, or
advance plot.  If you are looking to kill players, roll dice all you want.

If you want to advance plot, I'd advise you roll some dice behind your
screen, and assign just enough damage to make them spend a chip or 2 in
order to not get killed.  Make sure they got the chips to do it, however!!!

This way, you can have some players that don't have dead characters, who are
roaring to find out who blew them up.  You can leave a clue in the explosion
as to who did it (a particular way something is wired, particular chemicals,
etc), so they can go and handle the problem.  Advances story, and doesn't
nuke your players because of a single die roll.
