Here's a slight counterpoint -- I do know people who have gamed for a few 
years already without killing anyone _ingame_ either (no, not myself, 
unfortunately) -- it is possible, and it doesn't take the fun out of it, 
either (I myself played in MANY great campaigns in which I haven't killed 
anybody either).  True, I believe ingame violence has its place, but 
there's still no reason to default to it -- I see no reason why killing 
should be taken lightly even in a make/believe setting...
