Well, I'm not -- I'd say that "something happening" doesn't necessarily
mean explosions/shoot-outs/massacres; obviously, the easiest way out is
interaction, that is getting your posse to have someone to talk to (and
reasons for that). Which is to say that my policy is to include all the
explosions/killings I need, but no more, and certainly not just for the
reason of chasing boredom away. Actually, fights are quite often _the_
boring sequences -- slow action (yes! just think of how long does it take
to play a 5-minutes fight), lots of dice-rolling (and card drawing); IMHO
it takes a lot of skill to keep the tension up during a fight rather than
between fights.
Obviously, though, it depends very much on what you and your group are in
it for -- I like stories, and like being in-character; I like neither
random character deaths nor superhero "I'll kill them all/The fastest gun
this side of Mississippi" invincibility; Most of the time I'm quite happy
when I can avoid a fight (though yes, I do have a few bloodthirsty
characters in my portfolio as well).
