You know, I'm reading all these threads and thinking "this should really
be "how to screw over the posse 101" instead. What about some things that
actually encourage the posse to give up some of their equipment.

Is your posse at least a little heroic? Then have them come to a town
that's down on its luck and needs some ammo/weapons/trade-goods. Hopefully
the posse will be nice and give them some, or at least trade at a loss.
Then tell the posse members that they can all buy Reknown at level 1 and
for only 2 pts. instead of the normal 3 (or leave it at 3). Suddenly the
posse is remembered by a few people as the bunch that helped town X while
it was down. Of course you can come in to our town, your always welcome.
Here let old doc. take a look at that wound for ya...

Suddenly the posse realizes that helping people isn't just a way to feel
golly-gee-wiz good, but they can also benefit from it. Maybe they'll do it
more. With any luck soon your posse has taken care of the problem for you.
And it hasn't been solved by blowing-up/stealing/over-charging for it.

Towns could even trade for something useful that the posse might need. "We
got these 5 AP 4 bullets off a dead soldier awhile back an' this LAW
too... You say yer goin' up against some automatons. Sure you can have
them, we could really use some food, a few guns and ammo and that old
typerwriter there and maybe some of that TP... is it the kind with the
lotion in it?"

Of course this can go the other way too. If the posse turns down a town in
need then they can pick up a bad rep. quickly. Especially if the town gets
wiped out shortly afterwards from lack of ammo (except for a lone 'teller
of course...)

Then the next town they go to could be something like this: "Ain't you
that bunch what let Near Fargo go up in flames? GET OUTTA HERE! WE DON'T
WANT YOUR KIND ROUND OUR TOWN! YER NO BETTER THAN THROCKMORTON AND HIS
STINKIN' BLACK HATS!" <followed by the falling of much spit, rocks and
garbage on posse>
Or worse: "Yeah, you can come in... it's gonna cost you though. Some food,
a few guns and ammo and that old typerwriter there and maybe some of that
TP... is it the kind with the lotion in it?"
