Unfortunately, no. I'd say Australia has gone the way
of the crispy critter also.
In our present day Australia is considered prime naval
base material for the western nations, possesses a
number of major satellite up-link/tracking stations
(Echelon?), and has a quite capable military (well,
compared to New Zealand it has). A couple of nuclear
power stations scattered about, repair and refit
facilities, the list goes on.
So the powers that were would have thrown a few of the
big boys over this way as well. So even more of
Australia is now a blasted lifeless wasteland.
New door we have New Zealand which also houses a major
satellite up-link tracking station. A prime target to
be removed by something nasty and radioactive. Even
better, much of NZ is as close to sea level as you can
get without being Dutch so any decent tsunami is going
to roll over it like being molested by a drunken
uncle.
As an aside, there's a book called Icefire which deals
with a 'terrorist' act with nuclear weapons that sends
an Uber-wave out from Antarctica towards the
southeast. Goodbye NZ and just about everyone else in
the way as it heads towards the US west coast. An
interesting novel with plenty of action. A crap ending
but you get that with disaster concepts.
Anyway, for the pacific nations it would be more cost
effective to throw your Ghostrock city killers into
the ocean beside the country than actually on it. Can
you imagine a Ghostrock spawned tsunami? Enormous
black rolling wave filled with the screaming souls of
the dead. I like it. Artistic value if not
strategically sound.
Cheers,
Mr. B
