Re: [HOE] Emission Control Device Idea?
There are a lot of things involved in emmisions control. 1970 is when the
bulk of the legislation was passed, and it was amended in the 90's.
Catalytic converters (cat) are on the exhaust end, There are also emissions
controls on the input end. A carburator, has a bunch of stuff on it. I'm
not too sure about fuel injected systems tough, but I'm sure that they have
the same stuff a carb. would have just in a different setup.
Leaded gas was used cause it reduced pinging and knocking in the engine.
I'm sure it adveresly affects a cat, but it was stopped from usage case it
had lead in it. It produced lead in vast amounts, and well lead is bad, for
you and for everything.
In my games, which I haven't run or played in in a while, things are
different. While fuel injectors are around, there are just as many carb'ed
engines out there. Injectors improve milage, and top speed, but increase
and complicate repairs. So most of my player's cars are carb'ed, and
emissions controls are way different.
Just my $0.02,
