Another thing is to not have anyone that can use that much stuff. I mean,
the posse may have a $100,000 worth of panty hose and chocolate bars, but
who's gonna trade for ALL of it? Even a trading post has limited resources
and space. Another option would be to give it to them and inform that the
money is in trade good that occupies roughly 4 5'x5' crates. What to do?
I'm sure there are "banks" or such in Junkyard. So mention to the posse
that they could "invest" the money and not have to carry it all around.
Then the posse is glutted with money (when they are away from Junkyard),
but they can still get to it with some work. This can be advantagous
because a poor posse can be just as hard for a marshal to run as a rich
one.
"Ok, you guys see a jeep with 3 black-hats in it tooling down the road."
"We all dive for cover and wait for them to pass."
"What?!? It's THREE black hats."
"Yeah, but we only have 5 bullets left and we had to trade our body armor
for food and that old mule in the last town."
[And thus the marshal's plot hook drives right past the posse and off into
the sunset]

Besides, from the sound of it, he could just die...
