[HOE] NEVER buy cyberware from a junker! [Shane]
Ok, tell me if I'm missing something here:
On the instabiliy chart for cyberware in Iron Oasis on something like a 15
or higher the piece of equipment breaks/blows up/disappears/is gone
forever.
So lets say a scrapper gets a good solid piece of equipment from Dr. Edna
that has a reliability of 20. That means that there's a 1/20 chance of it
failing and you having to roll for instabiliy PER DAY and a 1/4 chance of
that roll resulting in the piece being destroyed (in one form or another).
So that means there's a 1/20 * 1/4 = 1/80 chance of the piece being
destroyed each day. I did the math and that means that after just 2 months
the odds are better than 50/50 that the piece is going to be gone. In
other words, flip a coin, if it comes up heads then your $6000 piece of
cyberware is gone in 2 months.
Now I can understand this if it's some wiz-bang gun made from mufflers and
snot that some junker cobbled together in the ruins of an old McDonalds.
But this is someone's arm, or eye!, or god-forbid HEART! we're talking
about.
Who in their right mind would buy junker-tech build cyberware?
Wouldn't it make more sense, given that these are expensive and in many
cases ESSENTIAL pieces of equipment, that they would get some extra TLC
and maybe have a better reliability/instability?
