Just a quick comment/question... Is this really true, that "most folks
write off Spirit"? Because, in games I have ran, it seems that most of
my players feel that having less than d8s in Spirit is suicide, because
you will fail Guts checks too often. There are even some characters with
d10s and d12s in Spirit who do not have any form of arcane background.
They mainly do it because the feeling is if you want a character who has
seen it all, and isn't afraid of anything (an old war vet, for example),
you need to have not only a high Guts rating (3 or 4 points), but high
die types as well.
If anything gets "written off" in my group, its Mein. Anything higher
that a d6 is considered somewhat odd. Mein is also seen as a place to
"dump" a d4 you might have. One player made a gunfighter recently, and
put a d12 in Mein, because she wanted to be able to overawe as well as
persuade people, and the other players in the group were shocked when
they heard she had used a d12 in that way. They eventually came to think
of it as an "interesting thing to try". *shrug*
