Re: [HOE] Killed My.. Entire... Party....
Ahh..dice fudging. Something near and dear to my heart. I'll admit that I do it as
a GM, but it tends to be situation and system dependent.
In my recent D&D3 game I had 2 characters fail easy balance checks and fall from a
rope bridge. I did some fudging and gave them a Fort save to live since I realized
I had had them make too many checks and they failed the last one. So poor game
design on my part, fixed by fudging on my part.
Having been away from table top RPGs for a while (i got sucked into fantasy
LARPing), I am having fun running a D&D3 game. But what I really want to do is
start a Deadlands/HOE game. I've been buying and reading all of the PEG stuff from
the start and have only played once. So now I'm working on my group and hope to
start one soon.
In preparation for my soon-to-be game I have been re-reading the Deadlands rules.
The more I do that the more I realize that even though d20 is better than D&D2 it
is *still* class and level based and that is what I dislike the most. That and hit
points. I think much of my GM fudging happens because of system limitations that
do not allow for the flexibility we all want in our game. I'd much rather let my
players fudge their own rolls, in the form of Fate Chips.
So wish me luck on converting my group to the PEG way.
