In this case, it's a little weird... The Templar isn't a major
character, just a member of a previous expedition to the adventure
site. They've finished the adventure, and there's very little
background on the Templar as he isn't a key character, just a corpse in
a stairwell.
So the posse templar is going to take the sword to Boise. I figure that
since they are making the effort to do the right thing it should be
rewarded, and a minor relic fits the bill... Something along the lines
of a 1-2 pointer by Horace Black's nifty rules he sent a link to. I
need to skim Urban Renewal and figure out some background for this
ill-fated templar, which will probably help with his sword's abilities.
BTW, is there any offical word on Templars 'trading up' swords? I plan
to make something of a ceremony of it. Simon (see my post in the Boise
Horror thread for how this might change) will provide (with assistance
from the Templar's Pet Librarian) the history of the past wielder(s)
and say a few words about how much of a responsibility it is to take on
a sword with so much history... Or, the templar can keep her current
sword and make it famous.
My posse, in general, has learned to recognize relics, but has trouble
actually accepting that to get the bonus, you have to pay the price. I
just handed them a very nice toy from Waste Warriors but they have yet
to even fire it. It's not as if I've ever really done anything bad with
a relic... The only one with serious taint is a cavalry saber in my
Weird West game that came from a crazed killer. The taint's a bit
obvious, as the blade is permanently blood stained and such, bad the
martial artist with his own relic sword has a feeling that it's
trouble, but every other artifact has been mostly good, if they'd just
use it! If I let them, i think they'd have a room in their home base
with a rack of relics on one wall that they are too afraid to use...
Their was a South American mask that turned the wearer into a nasty
cat-beast, but it was never under posse control. The MiBD took care of
that pretty quick, especially since it was one of their own using it...
Anyone else have this problem?
