Re: [HOE] Just a thought; irritated about the language thing
In my own defense it was NOT directed at any person. It was in the context
of "Want to shoot yourself in the foot?" "F THAT!"
I was not telling any of the DRC team to F off.
As far as the DRC is concerned, my point was the Legal Contract that caused
the DRC to become the Joint Owner with out recourse of the Author of the
work. It was very advantageous to DRC. Allen proposed a good Use Licence
alternative to them and they have changed it.
I got all fired up over this because of a long standing feud with a bunch
of greedy, blood-sucking Shysters that used the same kind of scam on a
bunch of us writers and artists to run off with our work. As I read the
other comments on this I realized that I PROBABLY let both barrels loose on
some other overly dandified, but likely innocent, fellows. I have said as
much in Deadlands, but not in so wordy a way. I did it there by agreeing
with Allen that I over-reacted, and that it needed to be dropped.
I did not follow suit here because some of you are still raising a ruckus I
started.
TO EVERYONE HERE! I apologize for the Ghost Storm that came from my not
liking the deal DRC proposed. I am not sorry for "F That" comment because
it was not AT any one, it was ABOUT giving ownership of the hard work of
all of the fine writers out there to the DRC. The DRC no longer has that
Clause in its contract with the submitters. For that I am glad.
By the way, I thought the DRC was a good idea, and was going to submit to
it, until I read the agreement about it. At the time I thought it was a
scam to get the e-rights to the work of the submitters. A way of hi-jacking
for profits as yet unseen... a kind of Piracy. I see now it was an
instance where the DRC used legalese from the music industry out of a need
to try and protect themselves, and not being native speakers of English
didn't understand that it was a "Jolly Roger" agreement (as we used to call
it in the olden days). With the way it is worded now it is a worthwhile
place to use, though I doubt I will submit anytime soon. That doesn't mean
that any of you should avoid it.
So, in conclusion... I apologize for the trouble, but not for the intent,
of my outburst. It did have the effect it should have, the DRC is now
asking for use, not ownership. I could, and should, have handled it
differently. There are reasons for it, but no excuses.
