Ok all, just my .02

The way I've always done Grit is that the Los Diablos shows up at 5. You can get more Grit by taking out baddies and thus get more cards for coming back Harrowed, but the max in my game that it will help with Guts checks is +5. (My reason for this is that if you let players get up to +9 to Guts checks, then anything under a TN 9 Guts becomes pointless). I have no idea what the "official" ruling is but you might want to check the Accumulated Rulings.
