it's been about 2 years since i've seen the board (at the kadon games stand 
at the pgh artsfest), but as i remember it, the idea of converting it to an 
ascii board is absolutely ridiculous.

i was not aware til now that people on the server have been resisting the 
idea of attached images solely for the sake of tradition.  i haven't done a 
survey, but i'm willing to bet tho that more people are interested in images 
than not, as long as it's practical (meaning their mailboxes and computers 
can handle it).  i know people who refuse to play on this server solely 
because of the ascii boards.  i personally have stopped playing any game on 
this server that i can play elsewhere with an image - including chess and 
several variants, backgammon and some variants, pente, k-pente, gomoku, 
dvonn, amazons, and trax - despite being a loyal player on this server for 
seven-and-a-half years, and i can't help but feel that a lot of people, esp 
more casual players, will drift away as they discover other non-ascii 
options.
