No, but you have to place a new piece for every
neighboring piece of the intersection moved into (for
either side).  If there isn't room to make a triangle
with every possible neighbor, then the move is deemed
illegal.  However placed pieces don't cause new ones
to form.

The piece you move and every piece of your color which
neighbors your piece (in its new location) ages after
placement.  A piece aged twice is removed from the
board, which on the real board is represented by
placing it felt side up (it starts felt side down).

I could see if Paul Wamelan is interested in making a
web display as he has for many of the other games
(there are separate web displays for Trax and Accasta
that I know of).

PS Yes, the grid notation was one that occured to me. 
I was hoping to figure out a way to make something
more akin to polar coordinates work, but the
non-uniformity of the board makes that difficult.  In
case it wasn't obvious (due to typos), the link in my
first message ia a JPEG of the board itself.
