Well... there's always the header...

   Content-Type: text/html;

... followed by <HTML>[blah blah]<BODY><PRE>

This also has the interesting advantage that pbmserv could do different
pieces in different colours if they wanted, or even fetch pretty
graphics off of a server somewhere with <IMG SRC="blackpawn.gif"> or
whatever.

You could then get EVEN MORE cunning and have a few move options
indicated with <A HREF="mailto:blah@blah&subject=chess+move+blah+blah";>
or even a nice form that got POSTed to a mailto address.

... but I've suggested this before, and it got glossed over. If only I
had the time to write it m'self...
