There is apparently a bug in the Hive code (including
in my help file :-)) concerning grasshoppers
(hoppers). The correct rule is that they cannot jump
over empty space. They must jump over a continuous
line of pieces.
Until a formal patch is in place, please be sure that
your move conforms to the actual rule. Apologies for
the confusion.
