It's true that ko never happens in Orbit. To my taste that's a good thing,
however there are many Go players who enjoy fighting ko's since they can be
very tricky indeed. In my Go-club-playing days (Triangle Go Club in Chapel
Hill, NC), I tended to avoid ko's when I could reasonably do so, but there
were several people who liked to start ko fights. Whether or not ko is bad
or good in a game is perhaps something that could be argued about at length.

Anyway, Orbit, though technically a Go variant, is not as close to Go as it
would appear at first glance. The variant Conversion Go
(http://home.fuse.net/swmeyers/conversion.htm) uses the mechanism of
liberties and is closer to Go in feel. There are no ko's in Conversion Go
either, but again whether that's good or bad may be a matter of taste.
