So it all depends if you are placing on the intersections or in the centres
of the cells. Centers of hexagons is the same as intersections of
equilateral triangles. (and vice versa, and assuming i am not just being
dim)

So no game needs a triangular grid, just chose wheather to place in the
center or on the intersections of hexagons. :>
