[pbmserv] Re: Dai Shogi issues ...

I have a question about the dai shogi boards on the server.  Did
somebody recently change them?

The problem is that if there is a piece on a space, the server gives
five characters for it to be displayed.  But if it's an empty space,
there's only four spaces.  This means that even if you're using a
monospace font like courier, the game boards don't line up.

As far as whether or not someone has changed the code, I don't know. I don't have anything to do with the coding here. In my experience the powers that be are pretty good at responding to bug reports quickly.

This is a problem because (unlike chu shogi) there's no graphics for
dai shogi (and at any rate i prefer reading directly off the ascii
boards for dai and chu).

In the meantime, there ARE graphic boards for Dai Shogi. There's not a separate list for Dai Shogi games though. Since, on this server, Dai Shogi is an option selectable from the Chu Shogi challenge and works off Chu's game code, the Dai games show up under the list of Chu Shogi games. (and ratings for Dai games are included in Chu's ratings).

Hmmm ... Well, I guess there's a problem with the graphic Dai boards too. :( I was just checking the game list, and unfortunately I notice that the boards for Dai aren't showing up properly there either (although they once did), so maybe the same thing that's messing up the ascii Dai boards is the culprit with the graphic ones too. The regular Chu boards are still displaying ok though. I don't know why it'd effect the Dai boards, and not the Chu ones. I'll submit a bug report on that as well.
