While I appreciate this adage I personally don't believe that the ends
justify the means. eg Sensationalism and scare tatics. This puts us in the
same boat as some animal rights activists who don't care what laws they
break, or who they hurt in their quest for their personal truths. I don't
care to shove my beliefs down anyone's throat, but would gladly go down
alone than to compromise my ideas of integrity.

It is not ethical to gripe about commercialism and sensationalism in society
and then go ahead and use them for our own gain. We put our cause at the
integrity level of the taboid rags.

I also believe in the greatest good for the greatest number. I apply this to
rescue situations. We cannot save every one. It is the same great principle
that democracy was founded on. As well as law by general concensus, and the
priviledge to disagree with the powers that be (within the confines of the
law) and not be executed for treason. 

These principles have aptly been put to the test in the last few days in our
microcosm of Pyrdom.
