I think about this all the time as I no longer have livestock, but
my Pyr's do guard my 2.5 acres. They also guard my house and myself,
so I hope in some way they are fulfilled. I am thinking of getting
some type of four legged critters again, so my dogs will have more to
do.
But, talking about 'that instinct', several weeks ago I took Mishka
to the boarding kennel, where I work part time, for a bath, <raised
tub-easier>. Mishka is my first pyr and does not have a good
temperament. She is very shy around people and when someone comes
on my property, she will not come near them. I had Mishka in the
lawn area<on lead> drying her and a client drove up. When he
approached the gate, Mishka stood between me and him and growled, and
when he entered the area, she growled again and stepped forward,
ready to protect me from what only she knew by instinct. We have
wondered about that guy ever since then <vbg>. A short time later
another man arrived and Mishka allowed him to
pet her. I was so pleased with her and know that she will protect
me, when the need arises.
Then there was the time my trash man tried to haul off the old broken
water heater, when I was not at home........that was her water
heater, on her property!!
