You are not alone!! And obviously Adrienne was feeling those same
feelings!! Yet as one who has raised sheep and ducks, geese, and rabbits, too,
back in my Newf days, I'd have also felt horrible listening & seeing the
carnage dogs and wild predators can do to them, too. (We never could bring
ourselves to eat anything we raised....they ended up all being pets!! And we
got very attached to them. It would've broken our hearts to have them
attacked. We're just big softies here!!) We were thankful to have my Newfs
around to sound warning growls and barks to warn other predators off. Usually
that is enough!! Practically always that is enough!! I never once had a fight
on my property!! (Thank God!!! It would've killed me to have my Newfs hurt!!)
Sure I'd have had lots of carnage to the livestock without something to warn
off those who wanted to attack them. Had pack of dogs attack my rabbits before
I got the dogs and it was horrible!! Nothing left but blood-stained rabbit
hair all over the property. Very upsetting. Hate to think of how horrible it
was for the poor rabbits to be torn apart like that.
It did strike terror into my heart reading Adrienne's post and feeling what
she must have felt. Know the fight seemed to last forever in her eyes. Really
felt for her. Would never want to go through that either. None of us would, I
bet. Glad Patou was OK. What a relief for her!
(Sorry...too upsetting of a topic for my cutesy sign-off signature line.)
