Re: Fw: [PyrNet-L] dumb question/books
Regarding if my boys get along or not....two of males are littler mates,
they room together, they do have spats; however, have never drawn blood
during their arguments. The vast majority of their arguments are either
jealousy related or a reminder from Keno to Kumba that he (Keno) is the
dominate male.
My oldest male, Cody (8) is not argumentative at all and truly does not care
who is the dominate male. My male Keno has initiated several confrontations
with my Cody Bear, thus, these two males must be kept separated. It truly
is a shame but, it is necessary as their few fights I was concerned and had
to physically intervene.
After having my one and only female, Kala my right hand, fixed it did help
the boys a great deal, not having a female on the property coming into
season.
It is amazing tho, the worst one of all for initiating fights is my female,
Kala. She is spoiled rotten and prefers to be the dominate of all. Kala
prefers Cody and those two can play in our front pasture fine together as
long as I am not with them. She will not tolerate another dog near me and
becomes extremely jealous; however, she has also initiated a confrontation
with Cody over our small animals that she is protecting and once over a
small calf that Cody seemed also to like and wanted to lick.
This behavior of jealously, protection, dominate/alpha leaders problems I
have consulted with two other breeders in Hernando County, Florida. One
suggest that I allow the dogs to fight in order for them to determine whom
is alpha leader (I have tried that but it did not work and would end up
separating them)
The other breeder, whom has males that are not neutered and do not fight,
suggested that I become the alpha leader as she is with her males...I've
tried that too. Seems that each have their own personalities and special
little pet peeves.
If neutering would help my males to get along...any suggestions for my
female? She's the real problem child, she, Kala, was an only child, ops,
dog child, for 5 years therefore, I contribute that to her lack of
enthusiasm towards the males. Ha..Luckily we have 21/2 acres so we are able
to keep them separated when necessary.
