Re: [PyrNet-L] Feeding--the opposite problem :(
Susan,
Ask your vet first, but you may want to try one or more of the following. I
had two Pyrs, Aslan and Sekhet, who both had weight problems. I utilized the
"green bean" diet successfully on both. If you dog usually gets 4 cups of
lite food per day and still gains weight, try dropping back to 3 cups per day
split 1 1/2 in am and 1 1/2 in PM. To each feeding add one cup of frozen
(they can then be defrosted and warmed or served frozen) green beans. My Pyrs
loved them right out of the freezer in summer and microwaved in winter just
enough to take the chill off.
You can also try canned pumpkin. Remember if you do feed the green beans
frozen to let them defrost just enough so they are still a little crunchy but
warm enough that the frozen beans will not "shock" their tummy.
My vet was skeptical at first but gave me the go ahead. Lo and behold both
dogs lost weight and really thought they were special because they got a
unique treat.
