[PyrNet-L] Adding to my life
Good evening,
I am really not sure where to begin, so I figure that the beginning is a
good start. My name is Tom and I live just west of Boston, Massachusetts
and I would like to bring a Pyr into my life. For the last year and a half
I have debated with myself about the possibility of getting a dog. I have
questioned every possible obstacle and I keep coming back with the choice
that I would be a good "Dad" I have a lot of love to give and would love
some companionship. I live alone in a house with a big yard. If this
happens, the dog would come in to work with me (its a small family
business) and it would rarely be home alone. Now, after saying all of that
can a single guy of 26 be a good parent to a Pyr or might it be an issue
with a breeder or rescue organization? I am not looking to show or breed,
but just a good companion. I had always looked at Goldens and Labs, until
about six months ago when a vet friend of mine suggested the Pyrs...I have
been an admirer since.
I am posting this to the list because I am not really sure where to turn
now. I have posted this message to another list in the hopes of getting as
many opinions as I can. I have done some searching in the past few days
and there doesn't appear to be many breeders locally..at least not from
what I have found. Can anyone recommend a breeder for me?
Also, I was wondering if someone could share some advice about puppyhood
vs. rescue. This is something that I have gone back and forth with. If I
get a pup, I can train it and know its background. Yes, there are puppy
lifestyle problems to deal with..house training, chewing...If I get an
older dog they could already be trained in some ways and house broken..but
I will have no background.
I look forward to hearing from people and I would greatly appreciate any
advice. Thanks for your time
Tom
