Re: [PyrNet-L] Adding to my life
Hi, Tom....it's me again. One suggestion I would have regarding your
interest in a pyr is to attend the cluster dog show at the Bayside Expo
Center in Boston the first weekend in December if at all possible. There's
usually a good entry of pyrs (I'm not sure where to call to find out what
time they show: someone on the list can probably help) and it's a great
opportunity to meet and talk with knowledgable and dependable pyr
breeders, look at their dogs, etc. A conversation we had at this show 5
years ago led to our adopting both of the adult pyrs we've had, and
they've been extraordinary additions to our family. It's also given us a
sense of where we'll go when we decide it's time for another puppy.
I agree with Deanna (I think I'm remembering correctly!) that puppies are
a real challenge and time commitment, but there's nothing like a pyr pup
to restore one's own faith and joy in life. We arranged to get Paddington
at the beginning of a summer when we both had a lot of free time, and for
all the intensity of raising a puppy, we wouldn't have missed that time in
his life. On the other hand, our adult adoptees (not really rescues) have
bonded wonderfully and been great companions, as well as playmates for
our boy.
Good luck.
