Re: [PyrNet-L] dew claws

Loved to hear that the dew claws are a measure of intelligence!!!! We
always say that if the Vet suggests removing them, that's when you know
to find a new Vet. It is also one of the indicators of a purebred Pyr
when we look at rescue dogs. It is special to have a breed that is one
of the 2 breeds recognized by the AKC with double dew claws (Briard is
the other). I do think that my dogs use their dew claws to balance on
rough and steep ground. The other thing to take into consideration is
that these are not just claws... they are pads with muscle and bone and
it is a major operation to remove them. We have never had a dog tear or
have any problem with their double dew claws (did once have one tear a
front single dew claw ). I wonder if they might have a balance problem
if they are removed.
