Re: [PyrNet-L] new member

Hi Sakia,

I don't think it will be a problem to ad a Great Pyrenees to your Labradors,
it depends on the sex of the dogs.
Sometimes it is better to get the opposite sex, but I also have a male
German Shepherd who is living in peace with the Pyr males.

To my knowledge the Great Pyrenees in The Netherlands are not known to be
very aggressive to people or other dogs. The only problem you can aspect
with aggressive behaviour is when you keep two Pyr males together. They will
start a fight at some point in their relationship. There may be exceptions,
but these are very seldom. With two females it can happen too, but the risk
is smaller.

I wonder were you got the information that the Pyr is aggressive. As member
of the Board of the Dutch Pyr Club the N.V.L.P.H. I am concerned with such
information.
If you want to get information about the breed in The Netherlands and Dutch
breeders, you can get in contact with the club and they will send you a
booklet about the Great Pyrenees.
You can also look it up at the homepage of the club at:
http://members.xoom.com/nvlph/index.htm

On april 11, this year the club is holding his "JoHo-dag", it is an
inofficial show for the youngsters . From 3 month up to 24 month. This would
be a great opportunity for you to see a lot of Pyrs from different ages and
different breeders. You can talk to the owners and breeders and will get a
lot of information first hand.
You can find more information about this "show" on the Club webpage too.

For the Pyrs at the shows: it does not matter if the dog is heavy marked or
not. The judges have no preference for the all white Pyr. The only thing is,
in The Netherlands there are not so much heavy marked Pyrs, in Germany
there are a lot more. Most of the puppys from the Dutch breeders are born
with dark markings but mostly these marking fade away a lot during the first
year.

Hope this helped you,

Ursula
