[PyrNet-L] Selling Dogs as Purebred in Canada

According to the by-laws of the Canadian Kennel Club (CKC) Section
25.5:

"Any person, company or club representing aa dog as a purebred
specimen of any of the recognized breeds listed in Section 25.1 shall
by such act be deemed to have represented the dog as one which is
registered or eligible for registration under Section 27.1 of these
by-laws."

Section 27.1 says:

Any dog born in Canada of a litter registered with the Club and any
dog registered in any of the foreign stud books or records which are
recognized by the Club and approved by the Ministry, shall be eligible
for registration with the club, upon application in accordance wih the
terms of these by-laws.

So basically the interpretation is, a dog has to be registered or
registerable in order to be called PUREBRED. In order to be
registerable, the litter must have been registered and the sire and
dam must be registered.

The Ministry they refer to in the definitions above refers to the
Ministry of Agriculture. They are empowered by virtue of the Animal
Pedigree Act. Any breach of the Animal Pedigree Act is a Federal
criminal offense and is investigated by the RCMP in Canada.

Please let me know if you require anything further.
