Another suggestion for daytime placement is doggie daycare if you can
afford it.  That compnaied by a vari-kennel in the bedroom at night is
something they could likely adjust to.  Another thing to keep in mind is
that just because they are outside a lot doesn't mean they have to get
less attention.  Move some of your usual activities outdoors to increase
contact with them and they may rebel less when seperated.  Make sure
they still get play time and walks in even though they are outdoors.
